TWO SHAMANS / opening view

After we treated the vibrations of TWO SHAMANS – helped by China Martini spriz – we captured

the ‘essence with a series of images that clearly express the depth of the shamans who have set up the third episode of our magical room.

Shaman’s East – Salvatore Cuschera – has impacted the shamans’s West – TankBoys – giving birth

to an installation that explores archaic forms which live and interact with more rarefied forms of expression, typical of the’ digital age.

From this comparison / clash comes a great emphasis installation capable of involving the audience
picked up in – WONDER ROOM – transmitting ancestral forces, typical of shamanism. Enjoy it!

Two Shamans – the vibes

wonder room 3: Cuschera & TankBoys

Two Shamans / Due Sciamani

“From wise to warrior, from mystic to magician, the shaman is the cardinal figure in animist belief, the reference point for healing, and the incarnation of the beliefs and hopes of ever member of a community. In the hyperliterate, hypercivilized and hyperdigital world of today, shamans are relegated to the role of fairy tale character or circus sideshow.Nevertheless, they are the object of an indefatigable fascination. And, although taking on new forms and significance, shamans are not about to disappear. Behold two shamans, one hailing from the Oriente, the other from the Occident.”

Join us once again from 16:00 – 22:00 Monday evening , the 22nd of March at Wonder-Room for the unveiling of Two Shamans, a trip through mysticism and an exhibition of sculpture by artist Salvatore Cuschera. Curated by Tankboys.

YOU WERE HERE

Here we are!
As the first event we made a video for the second one YOU WERE HERE by SKYE PARROTT & SM .
A video showing what happened during the ‘inauguration and the days after it.

SKYE PARROTT & SM

Following the opening of You Were Here on February 25th, the exhibition was transformed into an interactive visual experience.

Passers-by on Via Tortona were invited to LOOK INSIDE, past an opaque veil covering all but two sections of its glass façade. Going one step further than the classic post-family vacation ambience of the original setup, this progression of the exhibition was reminiscent of peering into a giant View-Master: a look into the slideshow (which ran on a continuous loop) transported viewers headlong into Parrott’s evocative, warm world and away from the cold austerity of Tortona for a fleeting instant…

25th of February 2010 – YOU WERE HERE

Despite Milan being caught in the last capricious throes of winter, Thursday’s opening of You Were Here at Wonder-Room, was warm and sunny. In the seven-part slideshow conceived by SM, Parrott’s always emotive work stirred yearnings for summer and simpler times. (The warmth was, of course, helped along magically by the flowing hot China Martini.)

Fantastical and strange faraway landscapes. The fixed gaze of a summer love. A fleeting (yet meticulously composed) snapshot of a moment nearly missed. Everything captivating and quietly exotic. And just like the in the photo slideshow that used to be an obligatory ritual after every summer vacation, every image was flanked at both ends by the delightfully nostalgic mechanical clicks and whirs of a circa 1950s projector.

Skye Parrott’s work itself, while charged with emotion, is neither alienating nor distant. Rather, it is rife with undying youth and its accompanying intrigue and curiosity. And, although the photos were taken all around the world, their flavor is unmistakably vintage American, full of optimism and open space captured in the whimsical, brazen colors of old film.

Here’s to warm nostalgia.

YOU WERE HERE – A slideshow conceived by SM

Tonight (February 25th) at the Wonder-Room, see through the eyes of Skye Parrott in a slideshow conceived by SM. Her body of work is set forth in seven distinct guises, together making up a complete vision that reaches deep into her archives and spans her work in fashion, art photography and even gives a glimpse of her personal collection. You Were Here is a journey into emotion, nostalgia for the recent past and a privileged personal look into the world of one of today’s true protagonists of visual culture.

Alessandro Dal Buoni & Studio Temp

The birth of Wonder-Room at its premier event: Alessandro dal Buoni curated by Studio Temp.

Gorgeous work by Dal Buoni, tasty beer, beautiful people and an altogether smashing first go-round.

Alessandro Dal Buoni curated by Studio Temp

Like a cold shower or a December dip in a Norwegian fjørd, the dead of winter can be magical at making one feel most alive. Cold means a rush of blood inwards and upwards, which is a boon to cerebral creatives.
The (January) inauguration of the Wonder Room was icy in the best of ways, to be sure.

Adorned with the work of Alessandro dal Buoni & Studio Temp, pared down to just a few strong and striking pieces, the hybrid space proved its caliber as an ideal canvas for the showcasing of an undiluted vision. Dal Buoni’s is at once distant and alluringly beautiful, its subtlety inviting reflection and speculation.

While the soft-spoken artist mingled with the well-dressed and very international coterie, an osmosis of conversation flowed continually between the gallery space and outside onto Via Tortona. Good beer. Nice hairdos (and mushroom space heaters to keep those hairdos defrosted). Delightful evening.

Take a bow, Wonder Room. You’re quite the host.
